Camping!

We went camping this weekend...

Just the three of us...
It was SO much fun!
We went to a great campground that has a river and waterfalls running through it...it was beautiful. (cough, cough...as beautiful as you can get in Oklahoma anyway)
As soon as we arrived Malak began playing in the dirt...He would fill cups with dirt and then dump it out and start again... he would transfer handfulls of dirt from one place to another.... he would pick grass and throw it...he would pick up gravel and pour it over his head... He had a constant ring of dirt around his mouth... I often caught him trying to sneak a secret snack of dirt clod. Yum. Oddly enough, we found lots of gravel in his diapers. But this is what he did all weekend and had a blast! Normaly, I am a clean freak but when were outside, having fun I am all about wanting him to just be a boy and explore! He definitely did that and had SUCH a fun time doing it!

Not too happy when I wouldn't let him suck on the beer bottle cap that he found in the dirt. I'm a meany.

Even out in the wilderness Eric can find reasons to play on his iphone. Nice. (In his defense, we both put our phones away shortly after being there)

We played in the river and tried to keep our son from wandering straight out into the moving water. He really wanted to pick up all the rocks from the bottom of the river... it's tricky when your head goes under water every time you bend over to pick up a cool rock..The river was cool and shallow and was the only way we survived the thick, nasty heat (about 95 degrees). We floated around and spent most of Saturday in the water... I went in so pale, I was alomst see-through... now I'm a lovely shade of lobster. Nice.

Sweet boy... just relaxed and layed with me for about 30 minutes. Loved it.

We went for walks...

We wore sunglasses...

We ate s'mores... (which, I've realized I don't really like! I am more of a burn your marshmallow and then eat it off the stick kind of girl. Huh, who knew?)

We pondered the meaning of life..

I like that Malak and the dog are both laughing for this pic. They're pals...

The weather was so hot that we left the rain fly off the tent and just slept under the stars (through the screen of course). It was wonderful to just lay there watching fireflies, hear the bullfrogs and crickets chirping and be all cozy (and safe from those oh-so-soothing but oh-so-nasty, when upclose, creatures) While we were peacefully sleeping, minding our own bidness a racoon family decided that we wanted to share our food with them... they ate all the hot dog buns, most of the dog food, half a banana and half a box of raisins. They also scared the bejeezes out of me when they screeched and hissed right outside the tent. Dumb racoons.

With such a lovely weekend, one would think that I would have taken lots of great video... but no, I took this awesome footage.

Yeah, I know... SO glad I got that bat on tape... in the dark.

Glad you survived the heat! I love that Malak enjoyed playing in the dirt. That is SO something Mira would do the whole time! My favorite part is the "if I sit here long enough you'll see it" comment regarding the fire flies. Funny! Oh, and cute bathing suit!

Looks like a great time--I'm impressed with your outdoorsiness! I'm just such a sissy about heat, dirt, sleeping outside, etc. Maybe I should give it another whirl!

Sammy dear, I was wearing a dress. Weird, I know. But it was the day we got there and happened to be what I was already wearing. And it worked out great cause it was super cool for the hot weather!
Mal's shirt is from Baby Gap, the(RED) line. Which they don't sell anymore, but I bet you could find online somewhere. We stocked up on tons of the (RED) products and that's one of the last shirts that fit him. :(

This post makes me want to get back up to Timothy Lake...in an RV/camper. We decided on our last trip that we're done with the tent-thing. Neither of us sleep. I tried to sleep in the car (Honda Element with seats that fold down to "beds"), but both of us were wiped.

I'm glad that Malak was a fan of the camping. We're testing Eli next weekend for the annual 4th of July campout. Hopefully it goes well :)

By the way, you are a meanie for not letting Malak suck on the beer bottle cap. :)

Oh, and I want to know where this is too!

Hi Eric, Tara, and Malak,

Your posts are so entertaining! My name is Erin, and I am a college student with mild cerebral palsy. I’m a special education major and have hopes of becoming a disability services director of a university after graduate school. I have just launched a blog that is still getting started, but with the title “Empowering People and Changing Lives,” I hope that it will provide a wealth of resources for people who care for children, specifically those who are affected by disability. I will also be chronicling some personal experiences and will be sharing some thoughts about those along the way. Your blog has also been included in my blogroll, so I hope that together, we are able to collaborate to provide resources to those who are in similar situations. The blog’s address is http://empowerpeoplechangelives.blogspot.com. From there, you will be able to read the posts I have written, find out all about me, check out my blogroll, eventually look at many resources I have gathered, and contact me.

Look forward to reading many more of your posts! Happy blogging!

I loved every pic!! What a beautiful place to go! Mmmm camping is the best! And so affordable. Gravel in his diaper? Crunchy. . . but full of minerals.
Good times.
