I realize that this video may not have portrayed Malak as the brightest kid ever...but it's funny so we will have to show off some of his more serious skills another time. :)

Here is a MAJOR (note my sarcasm) dilema I am having. We have these built-in bookshelves in our bedroom, I love them, but am kind of at a loss as to what to do with them. Obviously, I have some of our books in there and also I have about 37 thousand candles in there to take up space... I have always just had my shoes on the lower shelves and it has been great, but I've been trying to organize lately and am wondering if anyone has any great ideas for these lovely shelves that are not reaching their full shelving potential. Help. Give me an idea or two. I could always just leave the shoes there...or maybe there is some untapped glorious idea that needs to be addressed! Help me! What would you put on these shelves?
** Update** I got a comment (and 3 emails) wondering if we have a pink bedroom...the answer is yes. It's suuuper light pink with darker stripes on one wall and a black wall on the opposite side of the room. I am actually not a fan of pink, but for some reason thought a pink and black bedroom would be fun and different! I added a picture to this post, so you can invision a pink grown up's room. By the way, I am getting the itch to redecorate...any ideas??

I did Malak's hair in some little twisties the other day. Haha! He still doesn't have the most hair ever, although it is super long, so I just twisted it up and then laughed at the finished product. Cutie. I love this guy.

Your facebook status said to comment, so I am! :) The video is darling! My daughter (now 3 1/2) never developed that talent, sadly. And about the book shelves, I suggest... books! But then, I am a book addict and have to keep boxing mine up and putting them in storage in the garage b/c we don't have room in the house. I am in envy of your shelves.

I think you should leave the shoes there! Is your room painted pink? It looks pink.. I like pink... I just wondered if it was pink. Leave the shoes.

Lilly blows bubbles like that too... though your son has a talent far beyond her dreams! Those are some serious bubbles!!!!

Mal cracks me up! He has perfected the angle and sound to making the perfect bubble. Well done Malak! I like that even when he is just innocently blowing bubbles, you are still afraid of him:)

Malak's got talent!! Best bubbles ever. (too funny- I just posted a video today with that same song playing!)

I'm not sure about the bookshelves, but your room looks fabulous!!! If I had that many cute shoes, I think I'd keep them on the shelf. :)

I love the shelves. I was a bit distracted by the pink though and couldn't get passed that. My oldest daughters room is pink and black!! I should take a picture! You two are room twins! ;)

Okay so shelves.....I think some baskets on two of them and shoes in the middle. That way you can fill the baskets with various things you need to organize. Good idea!! Yes! ;)

I really like the pink... and the stripes! you go girl!! I am also having a new found respect for Eric... my husband would sleep in another room if I painted our room pink. IT takes a real man to enjoy the pink. You go dude!

Love it!

Malak is so adorable! And, I love your pink bedroom. Sorry that I don't have any creative ideas for the shelves though.

That is an impressive video! I think AJ tries to do that, but he just ends up spitting all over the floor and thinks that's hilarious. Or maybe he just wants to spit.
As for the shelves: maybe some pictures or some sort of art (small canvases or sculptures/carvings).

Leave the shoes--I'd kill for space like that for my shoes. If only you could see the pile of shoes I dig through in my closet every morning! Love the twisties in Mal's hair. He's such an adorable little man!

I have to be honest...I have always been a little jealous of those beautiful book shelves.

I agree that I love the twists. He looks like a toddler with them in...you should do it more often.

Im friends with Melissa and Ben who have EZRA. I am still stalking your blog. Hope you dont mind! I have book shelves and had the same issue. I saw HGTV one day and they had cleared out the shelves and put various kinds of vases and funny as this is......removed the books and candles! They called it clutter. Well since i have no sense of style i copied them. low and behold i get comments all the time in my shelf! I did keep some books but i stacked them laying down as if they were coffee table books and put ones that dont look fancy in my garage. I left a few tea light candle holders and then added mixed types of vases. More pottery type vases for looks rather than flower vases. I dont kow if youre picturing this at all but like i said.......i just copied HGTV. Maybe go to their website for ideas? :-) ~Angie

an idea - HGTV Design to Sell did a show with a room full of bookcases. You could go on to their website and look for some ideas. They may have before and after photos. Hope that helps.

That video is funny!
I hear you about the book shelves. They always seem like a great idea, but making them look good is not easy.

Great shelves! here are some ideas-
leave the shoes on the bottom. you have fun shoes so it works! :)
i would line the entire top row of the closed in shelves with uniform metal/sliver boxes or tubs from Ikea. then space out your books on the bottom 2 sets of shelves, but only putting about 10-15 on each shelf and stacked in various ways. this will fill in more shelves and allow more empty space to look organized. Add a few black framed photos to some of the shelves with books. this will tie in the framed pictures you have on your wall.

hope that is helpful. i love to decorate. :)

A few things.
1. Your bedroom is so risque. I dont know why but it feels that way. LOVE it
2. So when I saw mal in that position and the title was about bubbles. I was thinking so help me if this has to do with gas....but luckily it did not.....
3. He has some SERIOUS skills. Pushing toy buttons with his tongue, bubble blowing. its quite amazing.
