Freaky...

Every morning after Eric leaves for work, breakfast has been eaten and we've had our diapers changed (mainly Malak's), Mal and I head out for a morning walk or bike ride. We bought a baby seat that is now attached to the back of my bike and Malak LOVES it! So we generally find the bike ride more fun than the boring old stroller- and I like it better, seeing as it gets deathly hot much too early here in Oklahoma, I like to be able to coast down a hill or two with the wind cooling us down. Anyhoo, this morning, much like every other morning, we were riding in our neighborhood, having a relaxing ride...breeze blowing in my hair and through all 8 of Malak's hairs. It was glorious. Until, a ferocious beast much like the one pictured below, ran towards us, teeth bared, barking and screeching! It freaked the crap out of me and I nearly crashed our locomotive as I swerved to get away from the little devil. Either he was a super fast runner or I am a super slow pedaler, because he was on the attack and I couldn't get away!! He followed us for a block or so, me pedaling with all my might, screaming and laughing as the miniature Lassie tried to kill us. I of course, had to save my sweet new son who was just watching whole scenario with eyebrows raised, from the beast who was now trying to bite his tiny size one feet!! I am sorry to say I gave the little devil a swift kick in the jaw, but seriously, he was biting my boy! At that point he gave up on his breakfast feast of baby foot after I kicked him and we were free. Phew. The weird thing is that just a few houses down, our hearts still beating wildly from our near death experience, we came upon a Doberman Pincer (much like this one shown below)who was wandering the street- he looked at us, and took a stance like he was going to attack! Needless to say we turned our bike around and got out of there. What the crap?? Since when does a poor girl still in her jammie's and a cute little brown baby on a bike pose a threat to dogs?? Since this morning I guess.

Did I mention that our attacker was not just a collie but a miniature collie? So he stood only about a foot tall...but beastly nonetheless.

(To all you animal lovers, which would include myself, I am not usualy an animal kicker...these were rare and extreme circumstances and it was a more like a nudge)

Oh my goodness- that was too freakin hilarious! I can just picture it with wizard of oz wicked witch music playing and you peddling away on your bike! Not to say you're a wicked witch- well maybe when you kicked Toto! Too funny. We are staying at the Hampton Inn and will be rockin pedestrians with my new double jogger stroller- well new to me. If it can't be bought on Craig's list or Ebay there's a problem! :) So excited to see you finally and yes I want the diaper patterns and all the details about that fun stuff too!

hilarious... I would've had to kick the poor dog too... I mean, biting Malak's feet??? NOT okay...

I don't blame you for kicking it. I would have done the same thing. You may want to carry mace with you when you ride. I hope you don't have that experience again, how scary. God Bless.

Yikes, scary morning for you two! Two words everyone should know when walking/biking with a child (for safety reasons)

PEPPER SPRAY!

They make them pretty small and it won't do long term damage!

You kicked a dog?!? You are a horrible person! ;-)

What is it with the wild dogs in OKC? I've had a few interrupt my morning walks to class. They should get that under control...

I am an animal lover, but I think its plain IRResponsible for pet owners to let their dogs roam free around neighborhoods. That kind of thing REALLY ticks me off. I mean, twice there has been a loose pit bull roaming the neighborhood that I RUN in. Can you imagine!?!?! I would have kicked the crap out of that dog too.

are you going to try and ride again?!? are the little dogs of the world going to keep little malak indoors?!? I was scared of dogs as a child (and have not come too far since) so I'm sure I would have been freaking out!!

Um...Maybe one of those enclosed cart things would be in order! Just kidding...I am sure Malak much prefers the wind in his hair!

Oh what a funny story! One time my little guy and I were on a walk and were nearly attacked by a snake. I was quite sure it was going to chase us down and devour us! Granted it was only a small garter snake...but still!

I'm all about the animals, but I would have kicked the heck out of that dog too! I mean, seriously!!!

You tell stories so well. I said a little something about you in my blog today.

Ben used to ride long distances in the hills of Arkansas on his bike
(like 100 miles!) and he would always carry his water bottle. Mostly to drink out of it, but also to squirt dogs with it that chased them. It's humane and dogs don't like water in the face :)

I'm dying laughing by the way :)

My husband is a runner and he met up with that second dog on the street and had a stand off with him ... with a car in the middle of them for 15 minutes... it was PITCH black out (5am). TOTALLY FREAKED HIM OUT.

one word... TAZER!

I know I REALLY need a life, when the first thing I do in the morning is read your blog for a good laugh to start my day! That is hilarious!! But actually sounds like something that would happen to me. I had a similar circumstance, but it was on a golf course with my husband a couple of weeks ago. THREE, yes, THREE - HUGE dogs came out of the bushes while I was on the backside of a green. With a club in my hand, what did I do? RAN...which is an international sign to ALL dogs to CHASE! I bet I looked like an idiot to all the nearby spectators, but I didn't care. My husband (hero), swung his club in the air a few times and scared them away. Whew....that does get the ole heart racing now, doesn't it? I love dogs...my own!

OMG, I LOVE animals but totally would've kicked that one, too. Did any neighbors come outside when they heard you warding off the dog? Hope future rides are much more pleasant.

I'd have kicked that dog too!! how dare he even think about getting near sweet Malak's little feet! Maybe you should start taking some pepper spray with you from now on... :)
I love that picture of Malak, his expression perfectly fits the story. He has some incredible faces! Everyone always tells me Emmitt makes the best faces, but he wasn't anywhere near Malak's level at that age ;)

That's freakin' hilarious! What a ride! I'm not a kicker (nudger) either, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do! :-D Maybe you guys smelled like meat?? I have the cutest picture of Mal's raised eyebrows at the whole scene. I would LOVE to see it on video... too funny!!!

oh did I mention I was almost attacked by a dog twice when I was younger(same dog) so I am a little sketchy when it comes to dogs, I would have kicked him 2!

it's pretty much in the rules. you get to kick animals (or people) who bite your children.

Again, laughing out loud at your antics. I can always count on coming to your blog and finding something fun. You're the best!

OK i am in my cubicle at work laughing hysterically at this post. i was expecting you to say that the doberman was quite friendly and this to be some large experimeint in "things arent always as they seem" but alas, no luck...perhaps malak's homeade baby food and trendy gdiapers are quite the attraction for hungry pups? i mean, hey, your dog was all up in that s&*t.....literally....

I've laughed until I've cried. This is the funniest thing I've ever read in my life. Can I say that you calling your bike a locomotive is too much!!! My cheeks hurt from laughing so hard. This sort of thing is why my chubby tail stays off bikes. :)

You totally crack me up. I would've been screaming and kicking them in the face too!

Notice the doberman did not actually attack? Dobe's are smarter than that. They are bred to PROTECT, not attack strangers minding their own business.

I've been a dobe rescue mom for years and have owned all sorts of different breeds of dogs. There isn't a more loyal dog in the world.

Dobes have been known to travel over 100 miles to get help for fallen soldiers.

Just a word of warning, if a dobe is NOT growling or snarling and not running towards you - do NOT pepper or mace them! Just looking threatening they can't help. They were probably wondering what in the heck was going on with that other dog attacking you. If you attack a dobe (and most other protection dogs) first, they consider this an attack as well they should and may attack you BACK.

If you had a big mean looking boyfriend who was just standing there and somebody maced them because he "looked" mean don't you think that guy would get mad?

Use common sense and you'll be fine.

Macing or pepper spraying an ATTACKING dog is a good deterrent, just don't jump the gun.
