g diapers

Have I ever mentioned that we are using cloth diapers?? Well, surprise! We are! I am always nervous about talking about it because I don't want people who are using disposable to think I am judging...because I AM NOT. So there is my disclaimer, I have no ill will towards friends using disposables, especially since that would be like 99.9 % of everyone on Earth. :) Our decision to use cloth was almost a conviction rather than a decision- once I found out that it takes over 500 years for one diaper to begin decomposing and that Americans alone use 50 million diapers a day...my mind was made up. I realize that I am the minority, but I am just excited to do something good for the Earth and for Malak to have a wonderfully healthy butt.
So, I am using these glorious diapers called G Diapers. There are ridiculously cute, but more than that they are a snug fitting little diaper that holds it aaaall in. You should go to their website, it has tons of great info and even a few little quick videos that are really good. Julia Roberts uses my diapers so...I think that pretty much makes me cool. Me and Jules, we're tight. Anyhoo, I just got them in the mail yesterday and I have nothing to blog about. Yes, we are still waiting on a freakin court date- almost 5 weeks now. And from what I hear it could still be a week or 2 away. It is killing me that with each additional week that goes by that is another week that goes by that we don't have him with us...we were hoping to be with him sometime in March but obviously that aint happening and now we are just hoping to get there in April...we will see about that. We have been receiving lots of pictures of Malak from friends who are loving on him for us and that has been the one thing that makes the whole wait worth it...but I'm not going to lie, it makes me sad that he is growing without us! He was so tiny in his referral pics and now he a chub! Well, if 12 lbs is chubby. Heehee. But his face is much rounder and squishier and I do love it.

I LOVE g diapers! I want to use them when my hubby and I have kids. So cool to see someone who is also going to be using them (you'll have to let me know if they are really as cool as they appear to be).

P.S. I'm not a random blog stalker, don't worry. I'm a friend of Ben and Rebecca's and, as my husband and I would like to adopt one day (he's in school right now), I love following the stories of those who are. :o)

Malak's going to have the cutest diapered tush in town.

P.S. Apparently I'm allergic to Pei Wei's pad thai. Fun times.

You have to do what's right for your family!! Good job and good luck! They're adorable!

Me and Kim have been talking and thinking about using cloth diapers for our second child. At least we won't feel alone in this world

I think this post is going to convert a few. I have felt badly about using Pampers after I watched the little video on G Diapers website. The G diaper disappears in 3p-ish days and my crappy Pampers disappears in 500 YEARS! I would be sold on them if I knew they really worked. I fear the leaks.

I can't wait to learn from you and possibly change my Pampers ways for the future!

Go Green or go home.

I love them. We used cloth for awhile until convenience kicked in. I think I will try them for my sweet Leul since he is still in diapers! thanks for the tip.

so you should totally get a cafemom.com profile and join a group called "old fashioned & anti mainstream moms.

seriously, you will fit in there big time. i need to tell jess, too, she belongs it that group f'realtho.

this post about cloth diapering reminded me of that.

WOOOHOOO!!! Back THE DAY I cloth diapered my now almost six year old and they had cute diapers then but NOW they have WAY CUTE diapers and I wish I had a little butt to put them in.

So who cares what people think - CDing is cool and its fun and yes people will give you weird looks but thats okay. Your secure in who you are and well......so yeah. Way to go Tara - you ARE the coolest mom!

Im using those on our trip. I talked to Mary about them because it makes me uncomfortable to take disposable diapers for the children in the Gladney home. Mary said they burn their trash so they don't have a landfill problem...only a CO2 issue.

Oh, and you can use the g diaper covers with cloth when you get home. I used cloth with Marina and did not have more leaks than my friends using disposables

oh, those diapers are super cute! I love how they even match with his nursery. Everyone I know who's used cloth, has loved it. My sister in law even switched to cloth when her baby was about a year, and she raves about them.
The thing about parenting is that only you, the mommy, know what's best for your family, so don't worry about everybody else.
I have some very non-mainstream beliefs and I had to just learn not to worry about what other people think, and just do what I know is right for us.

you did tell us this...remember when I posted that comment and you deleted it?! anyway, I still and forever will think that it is gross but I will admit, those are really cute diapers!

what does g stand for?

Thanks for this post. I've been contemplating cloth diapers also. I just hadn't found a great brand yet. I think I'm going to go for it!

Good choice. BTW, almost all Ethiopian mothers use cloth diapers.

Jana said...

good for you, girl! i hope to use cloth, too!

Good for you with the cloth diapers! I keep having diaper guilt (and now you've made it worse!) about using disposables. I've just ordered Seventh Generation though so maybe that's a teeny bit better? Not as hip as little g's though! Malak's bum will be stylin!

Umm, okay, I am TOTALLY using these too. I am a recycle freak, so I had always had cloth diapers in the back of my mind, but nothing concrete. Now that I've seen these....I'm SOLD! :)

I'm so curious to know how they work. My husband and I are interested in natural stuff. We're those crazy natural eaters, LOL :-)
Hope all is well!

I am planning on using g diapers! I've been researching all kinds of cloth diapers and I have heard great things about g diapers.

Who gets 24 hits on diapers?!

Mom & I both use cloth diapers. Not only comfy, but they don't bunch up as bad.

Oh my, are those cute!!! Could possibly even sway me away from those wonderful disposables if I were to need them.

Your cloth diapers are so much cuter than mine! No fair!

~Laura~ said...

okay, these are super cute. I've been looking into them. They are kinda pricey at first (having to buy the covers and all) but once you're just having to buy the inserts won't it be much cheaper that disposable? You know I'm not real earthy but I'm all kinds of cheap. :) That alone could sway me. ;)

Tara said...

The covers are pricey (unfortunately all cloth covers are) but they only suggest that you buy about 6 covers and then a few extra snap-in liner which are only a buck or two. (and then of course, your actual inserts.)

Ryan Woods said...

Cloth diapers are only pricey up front. In the long run they save you loads of cash.
Secondly, I like to think of myself as the godfather of this post. I mean, I am your inspiration for all of this cloth goodness.

Oh, and...you're welcome.

Bill and Melodie said...

so can we see more pics of your nursery? I am trying to come up with some great ideas...
Thanks!

Sam said...

ok i was reading about your diapers. how many did you get total. those are kind of cool....

A Team said...

ok... those are cute!

Tara said...

We got 6 of the covers (that is how many they recomended) and a few extra (maybe 4) of the snap in liners (which sometimes end up getting wet or dirty) and then we are actualy using cloth diapers inside the G's....and probably just using their flushables when we are out and about or out of town or whatever. So they are great because they are super versatile and can be used either way- which ever works for your family!

Wow! Okay, I'm with Amy - I watched the video & am feeling a little tinge of guilt.

Those diapers are so cute. I think I would be willing to try those at this point, but in the very beginning stages - I'm not sure. Even with disposables, there were a lot of messes. ;)

Please let me know how they work for you. I'm going to really consider these for the future!!!

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! We are adopting from Guatemala and I found your blog through Jennifer and Shiloh (your sis-in-law i think?). We have been searching for some good cloth diapers and i just hadn't found exactly what i was looking for. BUT THIS IS IT! We own a small architectural design company that is working to bring sustainable/green design to our mid-western area. So I am ALL ABOUT THE CLOTH and lessening our impact on the earth!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU - i'm off to order g diapers now!

Honestly, it feels like the waiting has flown by for us as well! I think it has something to do with Christmas and travel. Our live has been a blur since about the middle of December. Hopefully, we'll get a referral soon. Although, are you not DYING that you don't have a court date soon? I'm dying for you!
